The window was then baked several times to blend the hues and fuse the glass, a process that can sometimes break it. The artist spent seven years creating the imposing piece, researching da Vinci’s preparatory studies to fill in sections missing from the original painting, said Forest Lawn president and CEO Darin Drabing. Among other pieces, he commissioned a massive stained glass version of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting, “The Last Supper” by Rosa Caselli Moretti. In 1917, Eaton began to make his dream come true. The improvements would likely have pleased Forest Lawn Memorial Park founder Hubert Eaton, who envisioned the Glendale institution as an uplifting memorial park, filled with lush lawns, impressive architecture and inspiring art. ![]() It is being reintroduced to the public, along with improved artificial lighting and visitor seating in the Memorial Court of Honor. The nearly 30-foot wide, 15-foot high artwork now hangs in front of a window allowing natural light to add its glow to the work. After decades of being backlit from the outer wall of a mausoleum, Forest Lawn – Glendale’s stained-glass version of “The Last Supper” can finally be seen in all its glory. ![]()
